6 Responses For When You're Told You Can't Handle An Unmedicated Birth

Have you been thinking about having a natural unmedicated birth? Or maybe you're not thinking about it and you KNOW that this is exactly what you want to do? Well congratulations to you girl! That is a huge deal.

But if your experience is anything like mine, you might have come across those nay sayers that don't quite agree with your decision. People that have tried to discourage you, put you down or maybe even make you feel silly for not wanting to get an epidural.

It truly sucks when those closest to us (friends/family) are not in agreement with our decisions. And it especially sucks when they take it a step further and want to belittle the decision that we've made, simply because they themselves wouldn't do it.

Avoiding medical interventions and not wanting drugs during labor is very possible, but there are times where people's opinions can make us doubt ourselves. And while I don't have an answer as to how to completely change their way of thinking, I can offer a few responses that you can say when someone says you can't handle an unmedicated birth.

These are a few ideas to get you thinking about how to fend off Negative Nancy's, in an effort to keep your thoughts and perspective about your birth peaceful and positive. I hope that at least one of these responses, empowers you to stand in your truth, regardless of what people think.

You've got this! Happy Birthing!
